Subaru Impreza Yakima Roof Rack with Rockymounts Bike Racks
Todays blog post is about a vehicle we racked up in the late summer! We mounted a Yakima Control Rack System with Rockymounts Tie Rods onto a Subaru Impreza STI 5 door. The great part about the Impreza is that it comes with an integrated fixed point attachment system which comes standard on the 4 door and 5 door hatchback models. This particular customer wanted a roof rack that could carry 2 bikes. This roof rack could also be used to attach a cargo box, ski box, ski rack, kayak racks, or canoe carriers. Here is a series of pictures that show how the Yakima roof rack and Rockymount bike trays are attached. At the very bottom is a list of the part used in this system.
The Subaru Impreza has 4 integrated attachment points which have flip up access doors. Using a small flat head screwdriver or your fingernail you can flip up the cover to expose the attachment point. There is a nut built into the roof line which the Yakima Roof Rack will attach to.
Now that the covers are open we can install the Yakima Landing Pad 11 which is the vehicle specific base for the Impreza. We don’t tighten this all the way down yet as we will need to make sure they are square to each other in the next step.
Here we mount the Control Towers and 48" Roundbars into the Landing Pad 11 bases and make sure everything is square. We then make sure that the bars hang out an equal amount on either side of the tower and then tighten the tower into place. Once that is done the Control Tower is removed and the Landing Pad is tightened down the rest of the way.
We mounted a 44” Yakima Fairing onto the front bar to reduce drag and minimize noise that can sometimes be caused by the roof bars. They complete the look of the roof rack and are a great place to put stickers from your adventures.
This customer chose to go with the Rockymount Tie Rod fork mount roof bike carrier. This rack has a universal mounting hardware so it can fit Thule, Yakima, Whispbar, Inno, Sportrack and most factory installed crossbar systems. It can carry both road and mountain bikes with 9mm forks. Its sleek, low-profile tray looks great on the Impreza and the red color matches up with the customer’s mud flaps!
This entire roof rack system is both functional and sleek. The low-profile bike racks allow the rear hatch to open fully and the customer has lots of options for other accessories in the future.
