High Weight Capacity

The Kuat Piston Ion Hitch Mount Bike Rack can carry bikes weighing up to 100lbs each when used on the back of a vehicle with a 2" receiver. When used on the back of an RV (motorhomes, 5th wheel, or travel trailer with a chassis mounted 2" hitch) the Piston ION carry bikes up to 80lbs each. Using the Piston ION offroad? When used offroad the Piston ION can carry bikes up to 50lbs each.

If you're carrying heavier bikes you are going to want ramp to make it easy to load your bikes. The Piston Ion includes the ramp so you're set up with what you need right from the beginning.

RV Approved

The Piston ION is approved for use on RVs including motorhomes, 5th wheel trailers and travel trailers with a maximum capacity of up to 80lbs per tray provided that the following requirements are met:

• The receiver hitch is directly attached to the RV chassis, not just to the bumper;
  
• No hitch extender or swing-away rack attachment is being used; and
  
• The bike rack is in its original configuration, with no add-on rack attachments.

Piston ION FAQ

Can I use the Piston ION to carry bikes with fenders?

Yes, the Piston ION is compatible with bikes equipped with fenders. You can easily adjust the wheel chock with a quick slide to fit the correct wheel size when using fenders. For the best fit, position the wheel chock as close to the fenders as possible and secure with provided hook-and-loop tire strap. Always use the rear tire strap on the tray when carrying bikes with fenders.

Can I use the Piston ION with a swing away adapter?

Yes, the Piston ION can be used with a swing away adapter but only if being used on the rear of a vehicle with a 2" hitch. It is NOT recommended to use a swing away adapter or hitch extension on the rear of an RV, 5th Wheel or Travel Trailer. Always follow the weight limits of the swing away accessory which may reduce the carrying capacity of the bike rack.

I have a truck with a 2.5" hitch. Will this rack work?

Absolutely, you can use the Kuat 2.5" to 2" Adapter with the Piston ION to allow it to fit into and properly tighten into a vehicle equipped with a 2.5" hitch.

Do I need to use the rear wheel strap?

The rear wheel strap must be used if any one of the following conditions exist:

• The bike's weight exceeds 70lbs
  
• The bike is equipped with fenders
  
• The bike's wheelbase is greater than 53"
  
• The bike rack is being used on the back of an RV
  
• The bike rack is being used offroad
