Find the perfect bike carrier for your next adventure

The Thule Vero is set to be one the most functional, easy to use, and versatile hitch bike carriers ever created.

You may think that sounds exaggerated and when I first heard it from Thule, I did to. However, after seeing and using this bike rack, the simple updates they made and its versatile mounting arm make loading bikes extremely easy.

What makes the Thule Vero Great?

There are several reasons why I love the Thule Vero. The first is that it improves upon the already super adjustable and easy to use attachment arm of the Thule Epos. A common misconception is that this arm can only mount onto the frames of your bikes. In truth, it can mount onto either your bikes frame or rear tire. Step-thru ebike frame? No problem. Carbon road? Quick and easy.

The Thule Vero also utilizes one of the best features of both the Thule T2 Pro XTR and the Thule Verse bike racks. That is, the tilting/folding handle is located at the front of the rack. This simple design feature makes tilting the bike rack much easier than other carriers. When the bikes are loaded and you want access to your hatch, the handle is right there in front of you. No need to reach through the bikes to get to it.

Thule Vero In-Depth Review

With that being said, let's dig into the specific features of the Thule Vero, and see how it stacks up against other bike racks. Below are the specific features that I will be reviewing.

Bike Attachment

The Thule Vero uses a similar bike attachment to that of the Thule Epos. It uses a single adjustable arm, that can mount to either the rear tire or frame. In addition, it also uses a ratcheting wheel strap on the front and rear tires. The great advantage of this arm is that you can easily mount any bike. Road bikes, mountain, ebikes with fenders, kids bikes, they all work well here. Combine that with its 80 pound per bike capacity, 55" max wheelbase, and you have a rack that can carry pretty much anything.

Now there are other racks that have similar carrying capacities, and yes the two wheel straps do make loading a little slower to load, however, after using this rack I found loading bikes to be quite easy after 1 or 2 trial runs. The only rack that rivals it for bike compatibility, weight capacity, and ease of use is the Kuat Piston ION. Which you can read more about in our Best E-Bike Racks of 2026 guide.

Tilting and Folding

Similar to the Thule T2 Pro XTR the Vero has one of the best tilting features available. That is, the tilting handle is at the front of the rack. This small detail makes it much easier to tilt the rack down to get access to your vehicles hatch or to fold the rack up to the vehicle when you are not using it.

I would say this is one of the major drawbacks to other high-end bike racks, where the tilting handle is often located at the base of the rack. Meaning, if you want to tilt the rack down you must be able to reach through the bikes to grab the handle, which puts you in an awkward position to support their weight as the rack tilts.

Weight Capacity/eBike Comptability

The Thule Vero has a fairly high weight capacity of up to 80 lbs per bike and 160 lbs total. This is higher than other bike racks in the same category such as the Kuat Piston Pro or Pro X which only hold 67 lbs per bike.

Additionally, because of the versatile attachment system, the Vero can hold eBikes as well -- mounting to the frame of step-thru bikes and is compatible with fenders whether they are on the front or rear tires.

RV Rating

The Thule Vero has the ability to be used on any motorized RV, however, its weight capacity is reduced.

  • On any motorized RV with a rear-axle to most distant point on the vehicle exceeding 90.5" the Vero has a per bike capacity of 48lbs
  • On any motorized RV with a rear-axle to most distant point on the vehicle less than or equal to 90.5" the Vero has a 80lbs per bike capacity
  • The Vero is not approved for use on any tow behind trailer (i.e. travel trailers or fifth wheels)

Locking and Security

The Thule Vero uses a similar style of locking to the Thule Epos where the attachment arms have an integrated locking mechanism. Once tightened onto the bike and locked, the release button on the ratcheting strap cannot be depressed. If you want to double down on bike security there is an accessory high-grade cable lock available.

Additionally, the Vero locks to your vehicles hitch. This locking mechanism is integrated into the tool-free tightening mechanism which fits the bike rack snug into the hitch receiver and prevents anyone from removing it unless it is unlocked with the key first.

My opinion is that the locks on the ratcheting arm work quite well and are very difficult to damage or cut in anyway to release the bikes. That being said, as with any bike lock, they cannot provide complete safety and the best practice is to not leave your bike on the rack unattended for long periods of time or when it is out of sight. The high-grade cable provides a visually obvious lock to people passing by and acts as a deterrent to try and remove the bikes, which can lead to damages.
